YAKIMA: Last week the City of Yakima ushered in a new era, a new City Council was sworn into office. The new council members won’t officially take on their new roles till the first of the year, but many of them are doing what they can to get out and meet the community.
On Monday the Yakima Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon for the public to come and learn a bit more about the next City Council.
Four of the members are first time council members and three are returning to serve on City Council. We spoke with the Chamber of Commerce and they say opportunities like these need to be taken advantage of by the community.
“This is an incredible opportunity for us to work together for the future of the Yakima Valley, and I think the candidates have a very big opportunity ahead of them and a lot of work, so we just want to be here to support them,” Chamber President Verlynn Best said.
It was a packed house at the meet and greet, they had over 100 members of the community stop by this afternoon. The Chamber of Commerce tells us they’re hoping to have more opportunities like these ones for the community to get involved with our local government.
