ISLAMABAD: Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) has disbursed a total amount of Rs 1,904 million (about Rs 2 billion) in form of death grant to the 4,057 beneficiaries during the last three years (May 2013 to April 2016).
An official of WWF told APP that a total amount of Rs 1,384 million has been disbursed among the 2,886 beneficiaries in Punjab province during the said period of time.
A total of Rs353 million has been disbursed among the 830 beneficiaries in Sindh province and Rs 72 million among the 148 beneficiaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. An amount of Rs 54 million has been disbursed among the beneficiaries in 108 Balochistan and Rs 41 million among 85 beneficiaries in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), the official told.
The rate of death grant given to the deceased family is revised from time to time, the official said. About the eligibility criteria, the official informed that the death of the worker should have occurred during service and in case of mine worker, the receipt of compensation grant by the widow OR family through the Court of the Compensation Commissioner under the Workmen Compensation Act 1923 is required.
Workers’ Welfare Fund (WWF) was established under Workers’ Welfare Fund Ordinance, 1971 as an autonomous body which is presently functioning under administrative control of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development for providing housing and other amenities to the industrial workers.
