KABUL (Pajhwok): Police have detanied 28 people, including a woman, over allegedly smuggling narcotics, an official said on Tuesday.
Ahmad Khalid Muahid, crime justice task force (CJTF) department’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suspected drug smugglers had been detained in Logar, Khost, Daikundi, Takhar, Kandahar, Paktia, Nimroz, Nangarhar, Kunduz, Kabul, Jawzjan, Herat, Ghazni, Balkh, and Baghlan provinces in the past week.
More than ten kilograms of heroin, 300 kilograms of morphine, 2395 kilograms of opium, 579 kilograms of hashish, 156 litters of acid, 1, 700 US dollars, , 10,000 Indian rupees, 19 mobile phone sets, one weapon and five various vehicles were seized from the detainees, he said.
He said cases of the detainees had been referred to judicial organs for investigation.
According to his information, of the smugglers, seven including a woman were arrested at the Hamid Karzai International Airport trying to smuggle 2,162 kilograms of heroin to India.
He further added during the past week the CJTF) primary court sentenced eight people from five to 14 years in prison.
