CHITTAGONG: Western Marine Shipyard (WMS) inaugurated construction work of 20 units of 1500 metric DWT (deadweight tonnage) class cargo for Evergreen Shipping Limited through keel laying on its shipyard premises in the port city.
Managing Director of Evergreen Shipping Md Mostan Billah Adil, Director (technical) of S Alam Group Shahidul Alam, Director (admin) of S Alam Group Rashedul Alam and Chairman of Union Bank Shahidul Alam were present on the occasion as guests.
Each vessel will be 60 meter in length and all the vessels will be handed over to the Evergreen Shipping within 30 months.
The ships will adapt to international standard on quality management system under the flagship of Bangladesh, which will be fully safe and environment-friendly. As such, Regional Manager M Marian handed over the keel laying certificate to the Western Marine Shipyard and ESL, a statement of the WMS said recently.
On February 16, 2017, arrangement of building 20 units of class cargo vessel was undertaken at the cost of Tk2.50 billion, which could be considered as one of the highest contracts in terms of number of vessels to be built concurrently in the history of the country’s shipbuilding industry.
Capacity of each cargo vessel is 1500 MT and machineries for the vessels to be used particularly originated from Japan and the European countries.
