LAHORE: Due to outstanding performance by the Withholding Zone, Regional Tax Office-II has collected Rs47371million with 101 percent growth in the first half of the ongoing financial year. The WHT Zone record 320 percent growth has been recorded in spinning section and 130 percent under the head of marriage halls under the Section 236-D in the first six months of Financial Year 2016-17. Outstanding performance is due to team efforts of the officers and officials as well.
This was stated by RTO-II Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sajid Ahmed, Withholding Zone, during an exclusive interview with Customs Today.
He said the RTO-II constituted teams under the supervision of Additional Commissioners Atif Bashir and Muhammad Ali to educate the withholding agents about the newly introduced properties ordinance. As a result, the WHT zone showed outstanding performance during the first half of the financial year. Deputy Commissioner Sajid Ahmed said that Rs1109million were collected from vehicles with one percent growth from previous year, Rs698 million done in commission as 26 percent growth, Rs1443million with six percent growth in token tax, Rs566million from CNG sector with 19 percent growth, Rs157million with 37 percent growth from auctions.
He said the withholding zone of the RTO-II has collected Rs692million with 67 percent growth from petroleum products, Rs47million generated from marriage halls with 130 percent growth, Rs698million with 26 percent growth from commission.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Ahmed said the RTO-II focused on continuous strict audit of withholding agents and ensured timely payment of taxes throughout the year. Through proper monitoring of taxpayers, withholding zone of Regional Tax Office-II will contribute huge amount to the national economy.
During the first half of the financial years, withholding zone regularly monitors salary payments under Section 149 and scrutinizes payroll of major contributors to take maximum short payments. Withholding zone also continues income tax based monitoring under the Section 234/231B. Through the audit of Excise and Taxation Department, the zone created demand of Rs885.587 million.
Sajid said the WHT zone of RTO-II obtained lists through various sources to take tax deductable on auction by the government departments and private companies, zone also monitors and conducts audit of the building control authority and also extensive mapping of marriage halls to retrieve maximum revenues.
Deputy Commissioner said he always discusses important matters with seniors on daily basis and learns from their experiences. The outstanding collection during the first half is due to leadership qualities by the Chief Commissioner Khawaja Adnan Zaheer who always encourages and motivates him. He said the trust-based working atmosphere is a key to success. For capacity building of the officials and officers, training workshops were arranged to discuss different issues of tax laws, he added.
