LAHORE: The weapons, including bullets, hand-grenades, and time devices secretly hidden in the heavy trailers and trucks carrying sacrificial cattle for Eid-ul-Azha, may be smuggled into Punjab.
The movement of terrorists’ facilitators and other suspicious people has increased in the province while the trucks’ owners are also in contact with the banned outfits.
Sources told Customs Today that sacrificial animals are being transported to the cattle markets of Lahore, Mianwali, Muridke, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sharaqpur, Narowal, Shakargarh and other areas.
The security personnel, indulged in inertia, don’t check them properly while some crooked officers also take bribe for the clearance of suspicious trucks.
The authorities are considering setting up of temporary checkpoints in the province to halt the smuggling of prohibited goods.
