Proposal to amend tax laws underway to stop unfair proceedings against taxpayers

LAHORE: Secretary Federal Ombudsman Abdul Khaliq said a proposal to amend law to keep tax-holders safe from unfair proceedings was underway to restore their confidence on tax collection system.

He was addressing a ceremony at Chamber of Small Traders in Multan here the other day. He said the Federal Ombudsman department had started to hold contacts with small and big traders to provide justice at their doorsteps. He asked taxpayers to register their complaints just on a white paper, the rest of proceeding would be carried out on merit.

Muhammda Saddiq, advisor to the Federal Ombudsman, said about 12 Ombudsmen were working at different banks offices and departments in addition to Tax Ombudsman.

However, he said it was a responsibility of the state to dispense speedy justice among tax payers after maintaining all legal requisites. He said FBR authorities could withhold their decisions only for 60 days. After that, he said they were bound to implement their decisions under given terms and conditions.
