KIEV: Ukraine stepped up corn exports in December-January 2017/18, but their volumes are still lower than a year ago due to a drop in the country’s corn export potential this season.
Ukraine exported 2086 KMT of corn in January 2018, down 10% from this same month in 2017 .
The country supplied 6.53 MMT to foreign markets in the first five months that is down 24%.
Already traditionally, the European Union absorbed half the volume of Ukrainian corn shipments at the time. Despite the overall decline in corn exports from Ukraine, those to the EU keep last year’s pace and totaled 3.24 MMT in the reporting period.
Ukrainian exporters continue to actively ship corn to the markets of China, Israel and Turkey.
