KIEV: Ukraine has exported 5.8 million tons of grain in the first two months of the 2015/16 July-June season, agriculture minister Oleksiy Pavlenko said.
The total comprised 1.306 million tons of maize, 2.640 million tons of wheat and 1.862 million tons of barley, Pavlenko said in a statement. An additional 324,000 tons of grain had been loaded on vessels and should leave Ukraine in the coming days, he added.
Ukraine exported around 4.8 million tons of grain in July-August 2014, according to the UkrAgroConsult consultancy. This included 2.3 million tons of wheat, 1.8 million tons of barley and 435,000 tons of maize.
Pavlenko has said 2015 Ukraine could harvest about 60 million tons of grain and may export about 36 million tons. Ukraine harvested a record 63.8 million tons of grain in 2014 and sold about 35 million tons abroad.
