LONDON: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Forestry & Paper and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT), which rose 2.77% or 31.00 points to trade at 1151.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Dixons Carphone (LONDON:DC) added 1.96% or 9.30 points to end at 484.70 and International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG) was up 1.17% or 6.50 points to 560.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR), which fell 3.36% or 68.00 points to trade at 1956.00 at the close. Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) declined 2.24% or 23.00 points to end at 1003.00 and Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) was down 2.15% or 6.20 points to 281.75.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1423 to 1180 and 468 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dixons Carphone (LONDON:DC) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.96% or 9.30 to 484.70.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.34% or 4.00 to $1193.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.96% or 0.58 to hit $59.72 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.20% or 0.79 to trade at $64.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.69% to 1.5181, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.7185.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.72% at 97.64.
