ABU DHABI: The court of United Arab Emirates maintained the imprisonment of 27-year old Filipina for trying to smuggle drugs by hiding them under her armpits into UAE. The Dubai Court of Appeals also imposed a Dh 50, 000 fine on her.
The Dubai Court of Appeals also imposed a fine of Dh50,000 on the woman for smuggling 95 grams of the narcotic amphetamine last May, Khaleej Times reported.
It also ordered the 27-year-old Filipinas deported once she finishes serving her term.
Court records showed the Filipina arrived at the Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 from the Iranian island of Kish.
But customs officers became suspicious when they saw her acting confused.
While an initial scan turned up nothing unusual, a woman police inspector who frisked the Filipina found the narcotic amphetamine under her armpit.
The Filipina told interrogators someone in Kish gave her the packet. She was to hand it over to a person in Dubai, in exchange for Dh50,000.
A urine test also yielded drugs, indicating she had consumed them.
The Filipina was charged with possessing, smuggling and consuming drugs and sent to the Criminal Court, which sentenced her to seven years in jail and imposed a fine of Dh50,000.
