DUBAI: 2002 – The UAE and Canada signed an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and capital. The agreement was signed by Dr Mohammad Khalfan Bin Kharbash, UAE Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs, and the Canadian Ambassador to the UAE, Christopher Thomson. Dr. Kharbash urged greater public sector participation in boosting economic cooperation between the UAE and Canada. Terming the signing as an “important symbol of cooperation” between Canada and the UAE, Thomson said this would raise the profile of mutual businesses between the two countries which is now largely in the private sector. The public sector should take advantage now, he said.
