KARACHI: Two ships, Maersk Denver and YM Miranda carrying containers and chemical took berths at Qasim International Container Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Tuesday. Meanwhile two more ships Maersk Surabaya and Argent Iris with Containers and Phosphoric Acid also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim (PQ) during last 24 hours.
Berth occupancy was reported at the port 60% on Tuesday where a total of nine ships namely, Maersk Denver, Sina, Al Rawadah, MSC Albany, Chemroad Haya, Al Bahiya, Berlin, YM Miranda Gas Chem Adriatic and MV Lahore were occupied at PQA berth to load/offload Containers, Palm Oil, LNG, Soya Bean Seeds, Chemical, LPG and Furnace Oil respectively during last 24 hours.
A record cargo handling was achieved at the port where a cargo volume of 186,925 tonnes comprising 153,580 tonnes import cargo and 33,345 tonnes export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 3,514 containers (TUEs) 1,759 import TUEs and 1,755 TUEs exports) was handled during last 24 hours.
Gas carrier Al-Bahiya sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning while Container Vessel Maersk Danver is expected to sail on same day. Three ships, Maersk Surabaya, Draft slayer and Argent Iris carrying Containers, 34,344 tonnes Coal and 20,244 tonnes Phosphoric Acid are expected to take berths at QICT, MW-2 and EVLT respectively on Wednesday, while two more Container Vessels Maipo and MSC Alice are due to arrive at PQ on Thursday.
