BAKU: Turkish security forces seized a Syrian national attempting to illegally cross into Turkey with weapons and ammunition, reported News Agency.
The report said Turkish soldiers noticed eight people trying to cross the border and warned them to stop, adding that the suspects disobeyed the warning and tried to escape into Syria.
Seven of them escaped as soldiers fired in the air.
Turkish security forces seized one of eight suspects, and military officers then seized 15 rocket launchers on site.
Smuggling activities are rising along the 910 kilometers-long Turkish-Syrian border as a result of the Syrian crisis.
Turkey is facing difficulty protecting its border due to the neighboring Syrian conflict which has spilled over into the Turkish side with a number of refugees, illegal smuggling and death threats.
The Turkish military employs advanced technological devices, including thermal cameras, to secure its border.
