ANKARA: Turkeywill target annual economic growth of 5.5 percent in the years 2017-2020, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Monday, unveiling details of the government’s new medium-term programme which he said will be announced in full on Wednesday.
Turkey’s economy expanded 5.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, according to data released two weeks ago, and ministers predicted growth would gain further momentum in the third quarter. In an interview broadcast by multiple Turkish television channels, Yildirim said the programme envisaged annual inflation of 9.5 percent this year, falling to 7 percent in 2018, 6 percent in 2019 and 5 percent in 2020. Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek, who is responsible for the economy, will hold a news conference at 1000 GMT on Wednesday to announce details of the programme. The finance and development ministers will also attend the news conference.
