AMSTERDAM: The Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippine Davao Region reported that the Netherlands are the region’s biggest export destination as of the first half of 2017. Citing data from the Philippine statistics Authority in Davao Region, the exports to the Netherlands are valued at 159.07 million dollars.
However, sunstar.com learned that the Netherlands are not the final destination of most exported commodities, as this country is a major European transshipment hub.
Trailing just behind the Netherlands is Japan, which a reported export value of 151.54 million dollars. The bulk of exports to Japan were fresh or dried bananas and plantains at 115.28 million; fresh or dried pineapples at 13.43 million and other fruits at 1.58 million. The third largest export destination for Davao Region commodities is China, with an export value of 83.19 million dollar.
Other major export destinations for Davao commodities are South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Italy.
