ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Sub-Committee on Cabinet Secretariat was informed on Thursday that Telecom Sector paid Rs684 billion taxes in four years.
The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Kulsoom Parveen here at the Parliament House. Briefing the committee, official said Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had paid Rs178.84 billion in National kitty in last four years.
He said the PTA was an independent body and answerable to the Parliament. He said biometric system was introduced in Pakistan for the first time and due to this system number of complaints from the people had reduced. Senator Kulsoom Parveen said this technology was not available in her province Balochistan.
The committee summoned Federal Investigation Agency and NADRA in its next meeting to further discuss the issue of bio metric system. The committee was informed that work for introducing G-5 technology in the country was in progress to facilities the people of the country.
The committee was informed that number of mobile bank agents in the country had crossed 400,000 and through those agents transactions worth Rs2 trillion was made during the year 2016.
The sub-committee was attended by Senator Haji Saifullah Khan Bangish, Special Secretary CADD, Member PTA, Additional Secretary CADD and other higher officials also attended the meeting.
