MEXICO CITY: Querétaro-based TAR Aerolíneas will begin offering regular non-stop service between Querétaro and San Antonio, Texas, in March or April, said the airline’s general manager yesterday.
Rodrigo Vázquez Colmenares told a press conference that the service will probably consist of three flights a week with a fare of about US $150. Frequency could increase depending on demand, he said.
It will be the first international flight for the relatively young airline but possibly not the only one, said Vázquez, as Las Vegas and San Diego are being considered as other destinations, as well as flights to Central and South America.
Domestically, a new flight is now being offered between Querétaro and Monterrey and other possible connections include Hermosillo, Ciudad Juárez, Veracruz and Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
TAR, short for Transportes Aéreos Regionales, began flying in March last year and has a fleet of eight airplanes, all of which are Brazilian-made Embraer ERJ 145s. The Querétaro International Airport has seen an 18% increase in operations as a result of TAR’s launch.
