TAIPEI: Taiwan plans to expand its VAT refund service for foreign visitors, according to the Taiwanese Taxation Administration.
From September 1, tourists who have purchased more than TWD2,000 (USD66.50) at any of the 1,800 Tax Refund participating stores will be able to claim a VAT refund from four new counters located in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Currently, these will accept refund applications only for department store purchases.
The counters are in addition to the existing facilities located at airports and seaports, and are part of a wider effort by the Ministry of Finance to promote tourism.
