TAIPEI: Taiwan’s export orders likely rose for a 13th straight month in August, fuelled by the launch of smartphones and other tech gadgets ahead of the traditional peak year-end shopping season.
Export orders in August were expected to expand 8.5 percent from a year earlier, according to the median forecast of 14 analysts in a Reuters poll. That compared with 10.5 percent growth in July. Taiwan’s export orders are a leading indicator of demand for Asia’s exports and for hi-tech gadgets, and typically lead actual exports by two to three months.
