The customs officers of Pune international airport intercepted four women passengers on their arrival by SpiceJet flight SG 52.
Gold biscuits were recovered from the rectums of these four women passengers.
A total of 2036.39 gram of 24 K gold biscuits valuing Rs 66,50,779 were recovered from them.
Earlier such cases of gold smuggling involved men. This is the first case where women passengers were caught smuggling gold inside their bodies.
Deputy Commissioner of Customs KR Ramarao told India Today TV that all four are Sudanese. They were medically examined Sassoon government hospital.
The gold biscuits were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
Booked under Section 108 of the Customs Act 1962, the smugglers have admitted possession, carriage, concealment of the gold biscuits under seizure.
