COLOMBO: A consignment of frozen mackerel fish of Norwegian origin imported from Singapore has been seized by the officers of the Central Investigation Bureau of Sri Lanka Customs.
Customs officials stated that suspicion on this consignment had been aroused as frozen mackerel of Norwegian origin is not usually imported due to its high value and when officers examined the consignment, they had found that the consignment contained expired fish.
Food and Drug Inspectors had certified that the fish consignment was not fit for consumption. The weight of the fish imported is 18,480 Kilograms and the market value is around Rs.1.3 million.
