COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Navy personnel, acting on a tip off have arrested two people, who were transporting 82 kilograms of dugong (sea hog) meat. The naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command Sunday apprehended the two suspects who were illegally transporting the dugong meat at Oluthuduwai in the North.
Dugong is a protect endangered species categorized as the “most endangered mammal” in Sri Lanka. During the arrest, the Navy personnel have recovered 82 Kg dugong meat and three knives in possession of the suspects. The apprehended suspects and seized goods were handed over to the Wildlife Department for further investigations.
