COLOMBO: Container volumes handled in Sri Lanka’s Colombo port rose 2.4 percent from a year earlier to 449,977 twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) in February 2017 with transhipment containers rising 1.8 percent to 337,307. Domestic volumes rose 4.1 percent to 108,716.
In the first two months of the year volumes rose 4.0 percent to 934,843 TEUs. Transhipment volumes rose 3.1 percent to 699,758. Ship traffic in February fell 9.9 percent to 363 vessels from 403 a year earlier. Total cargo handled in February rose 5.2 percent to 6.851 million tonnes in February. In the first two months, volumes rose 5.3 percent to 14.32 million tonnes.
