ISLAMABAD: Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL) Wednesday deposited Rs 10 million fine imposed by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and Rs 221.95 million compensation for distribution among heirs of those killed and injured in the Ahmedpur Sharqia oil tanker tragedy last month. “In compliance with OGRA order regarding oil tanker incident of Ahmedpur Sharqia, SPL has deposited Rs 10 million fine and amount of Rs 219 million compensation for 219 deceased and Rs 2.95 million compensation for 59 injured,” a spokesman of the authority said in a statement issued here.
On July 7, OGRA had imposed a fine of Rs10 million on SPL for violating the Pakistan Petroleum Rules 1937 in plying the oil tanker lorry that rolled over in Ahmedpur Sharqia and caused loss of precious lives on June 25. Besides, it had ordered the SPL to pay compensation of Rs one million to heirs of each deceased and Rs 500,000 to each injured.
