ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on November 13, for the combined group increased by 0.26 per cent as compared to the previous week despite record cut in POL prices by Rs 9.43/litre.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, the SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 207.26 points against 207.19 points registered in the previous week.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. The SPI for the combined group also increased by 0.26 per cent as it went up from 214.28 points in the previous week to 214.68 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 0.19 percent, while the lowest income group up to Rs8,000, registered increase of 0.03 per cent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000, Rs. 18001-35,000 and above Rs 35,000 increased by 0.03 percent, 0.28 percent, 0.31 percent and 0.29 percent respectively. During the week under review average prices of 11 items registered decrease, while that of 12 items increase with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged. The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included LPG cylinder (11 kg), potatoes, gur, tomatoes, onions, rice Irri-6, red chilly powder (loose), petrol, Hi Speed Diesel,vegetable ghee and rice basmati (broken).
The items which recorded increase in their average prices included pulse moong (washed), pulse masoor (washed), garlic, egg (farm),pulse gram (washed), wheat, pulse mash (washed), firewood whole, sugar, chicken (farm), bananas and wheat flour (bag).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plain, beef with bone, mutton, milk (fresh), curd, powdered milk, mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt powder (loose), tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked daal, tea (prepared), cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn (printed), georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges,gas charges, kerosene oil, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, telephone local call and soap.
