MADRID: Police in Merseyside and Spain are still questioning a number of people after busting a huge drug trafficking operation. Dramatic footage was released by the Spanish authorities showing armed raids at a luxury villa on the Costa del Sol.
In a statement, Spain’s Policia Nacional said it was a joint operation with Merseyside Police. The force also said the gang was allegedly led by two brothers from Liverpool. None of the suspects have been identified.
Twenty one of those held were in Spain and three others were detained in the UK. It’s alleged the marijuana was hidden in packages that were supposed to have contained marble tiles.
They would have been shipped to the UK in lorries which, the Spanish authorities said, were “bound for Liverpool”. Four marijuana plantations, containing more than 1,600 plants, were dismantled, the statement added.
