KARACHI: A customs inspector has been threatened by smugglers to back off from investigations in transshipment containers scandal case.
Mian Mohammad Yaseen, a customs inspector, has lodged a first information report against one Jamshaid Iqbal in Johar Town police station, Lahore. According to the FIR, Mian Mohammad Yaseen stated that he was sitting in his home with family when his servant Mazhar received a mobile phone call and the caller wanted to talk to Mian Yaseen.
According to the allegation, the caller, Jamshaid Iqbal, threatened Mian Yaseen that he would kill his family if he failed to stop pursuing the case against him.
According to Mian Yaseen, a case of smuggling and tax evasion was registered against five suspects, including Jamshaid Iqbal, Jawaid Iqbal, Safdar Iqbal, Kamal Subhani and Sikandar Subhani in Model Town and Mian Yaseen was the investigation officer of that case whereas another FIR of attempted murder was also registered against Jamshaid Iqbal and others after the firing on the car of Mian Yaseen in which his son was critically injured.
It all was started when in 2014 when a team of Customs Intelligence raided a godown and ceased a TP container mumber APHU-6944339 which was being transported on truck number P-8362 raiding party found that the imported goods were unloaded from containers and were dumped in the godown while the less valued stuff was being loaded into the container, further it was transpired that for this fraud the container was unsealed and was cut thorough with the various gadgets and cutter which were found from the spot.
Customs Intelligence at that time lodged FIR number 18/2014 against the culprits meanwhile in the further investigation it surfaced that at least hundreds of such consignments were pilfered sine 2005 to 2014 and the stuff worth billions was supplied into the local markets of the province and to the country wide.
IDs of 34 importers which were used to import these consignments included Abdul Rehman Brother, Ahmad Traders, Nadeem Trading Co, SS Traders, Dong Woo Enterprises, Heaven Enterprises, RN Traders, Shahid Enterprises, Bloomy Sports, Awais Brothers, Triple Foods, Hamza Enterprises, Perfect Trading, Al Faisal Trading, Awan Enterprises, Sigma Construction, Elite Enterprises, SMJ International, AS Enterprises, Akif Traders, Laiba Enterprises, SRK Enterprises, SS Traders, FDA Traders, Faison Traders, KS Traders, Subhani Fabrics, Isma Traders, Rozif Sports, Brookes Impex, Vennas Enterprises.
Customs Today has learnt through the investigation officer that mastermind of these importers namely Jamshed Iqbal has succeeded to inject their own vehicles into the bonded careers which were used for the frauds.
