ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue Rawalpindi, has impounded miscellaneous non-duty-paid smuggled goods including LCD TVs and other electronic items valued Rs1.7million along with a Mazda Mini truck. The goods belong to four trading companies of Lahore. On a tip-off, the Anti-Smuggling Organization of Directorate of I&I FBR Rawalpindi intercepted the said truck coming from Lahore with Registration No: BRE-4242 near Mandra Toll Plaza. The truck was being driven by Naveed Aslam S/o Muhammad Aslam R/O Dhrwor Hindke, Muridke Sheikhupura.
A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of the driver. On demand, driver failed to produce any proofs regarding the legal import and lawful possession of the recovered foreign origin miscellaneous goods except bilities. So anti-smuggling staff impounded the truck loaded with foreign origin goods under section 17 of the Customs Act-969 with the approval of a competent authority for further verification of its legal import and payment of duty and taxes.
The anti-smuggling staff has also served the notices on the driver of the mini truck for production of import documents with regard to the recovered foreign origin goods within three days under section 26 of the Customs Act-1969.
