TORKHAM: The Torkham Station, Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar, has foiled an attempt of smuggling a big amount of currency from Pakistan into Afghanistan on Torkham border with the help of political Khasa Dar Force and seized 160,000 Saudi Riyals equivalent to Pakistani currency of Rs4.496million.
One person named Khalil Ullah son of Farid Ullah, a resident of Landi Kotal, has been arrested on the charge of currency smuggling. An FIR No:19 was also lodged against him and further investigation is underway.
Deputy Collector Customs Torkham had received a tip-off that said currency would be smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan through Torkahm Border. Customs Station Torkham also alerted the Political Khasa Dar Force. During an intense monitoring, one person named Khalil Ullah was travelling from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Political Khasadar Force, during a checking on Torkham border, recovered foreign currency 160,000 of Saudi Riyals from his possession.
On demand by the agency concerned, he could not produce any documentary proof of legally taking the aforesaid foreign currency out of Pakistan. Political Naib Tehsildar Torkham handed over the foreign currency to customs staff for further necessary action under the provision of the Customs Act-1969.
