ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad confiscated a huge quantity of smuggled garlic valued Rs02.00million. The garlic was being carried from Azad Kashmir (Mirpur) and smuggled into Rawalpindi. The total quantity of seized garlic was estimated 5,000 kilogram.
According to details told by newly appointed Assistant Collector Preventive Majid Hussain Gaad that the ASO squad intercepted a vehicle on Pindi-Motorway and seized the garlic loaded vehicle. It was the 2nd biggest seizure intercepted during the month of February FY2016-17. Telling the Customs Today, he said following a tip-off provided by Collector Dr. Arslan, the ASO team intercepted a Bedford truck with registration No:C-9903 which was coming from Mirpur (Azad Kashmir).
The possessor could not provide any legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of the smuggled item, so the ASO team seized the consignment but freed the truck as drivers showed the complete documentations of the above said vehicle. The seizure was taken under the Customs Act-1969.
The ASO registered a case against the accused and forwarded it to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. The team took part in the seizure comprised Deputy Superintendent Matloob Hussain Shah and Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel along with other supporting staff.
The assistant collector said the ASO is working hard 24/7 under the supervision of Collector MCC and Chief Collector North Region.
