ISLAMABAD: The project for revival of Karachi Circular Railway will be started soon in order to facilitate the residents and to solve their problems regarding transportation system of the city. It’s a foreign funded project which is sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Launching of the project is subject to the signing of loan agreement and disbursement of the loan amount.
“Most of the pre-requisites laid down by JICA for signing of loan agreement has been fulfilled”, said an official of Ministry of Railway.
However, one of the main pre-requisite for launching the project was the clearance of right of way of the KCR route from encroachers and shifting of 6km Pakistan Railways track, which is yet to be undertaken.
A domestic plan was proposed by the government envisaging that the Federal and Sindh Governments may provide cash compensation to affected households (encroachers), in addition to shifting of 6 km railway track and construction of boundary wall from the area vacated by encroachers.
JICA was requested to give a letter of comfort for signing of loan agreement so that work on domestic plan could initiate.
The letter of comfort for signing the loan agreement and consent of JICA to the domestic plan is awaited.
