KARACHI: Following the directives of Provincial Minister for Food and Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, the Sindh Food Department the other day issued show cause notices to 12 flour mills and captured 265,400 wheat bags imported from Ukraine and Russia, says a press release issued by the Sindh Food Department.
“During crackdown in two days against flour mills over increasing flour prices and grinding low quality wheat, 12 flour mills have been issued show cause notices and 265400 wheat bags, each of 100 kg, imported from Ukraine and Russia have been seized,” says a press release issued by the Sindh Food Department.
Teams of the Food Department raided in districts centre, west and Malir and found stock of 39600 wheat bags in A. R. Flour mills, 32500 in Masoom Roller Flour Mills, 15000 in Blessing Flour Mills,21400 in Iqra Flour Mills, 16400 in MSK flour Mills, 30973 in Farhan Flour Mills, 16400 in Qureshi Flour Mills, 23800 in Ajwa Flour Mills, 15927 in Asia Flour Mills, 18500 in Indus Flour Mills, 19000 in Moon Flour Mills and 15900 in Q &Q Flour mills that was more than the requirement and against the law.
These wheat bags were imported from Ukraine and Russia which is a low quality wheat. All these flour mills have been issued show-cause notices because according to the law a flour mill can retain/stock 5000 wheat bags for ten days.
