KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that Rs 36,804 million tax had been collected in eight months.
During the last eight months from July 2016 to February 2017, Rs 36,804 million tax has been collected under various heads, while Rs 31,387 million were collected in the same period during last fiscal year, the minister said, adding that it was a big achievement.
He was presiding over a meeting at his office to review the performance of his department. Secretary ET&NC Abdul Haleem Shaikh and Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui also attended the meeting.
DG Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told the chair that Rs 561 million were recovered in motor vehicle tax in February only while total collection in this head was Rs 3,866 millions.
In the head of infrastructure cess the tax collection in February was Rs3000m while so far total collection in this head was Rs 2,6012.
He added Rs 265 millions have been collected in professional tax, Rs.2000 millions in property tax and Rs 144 million in term of cotton fee.
Mukesh Kumar Chawla while expressing his satisfaction over tax collections directed the officers to speed up tax collections and complete the targets at the earliest.
He said that the development of the province depended on the timely and full recovery of the taxes. ‘The performance report of the officers, assigned for tax collections, should be submitted to him on monthly basis and if anyone is found unsuccessful in achieving his targets, would be taken to task’ he warned.
