KARACHI: Collector, Collectorate of Customs Adjudication, has prepared a show-cause notice against M/s Sufiyan Chemicals for allegedly causing the national exchequer a loss of Rs1.62million by way of mis-declaration of classification, it is learnt.
According to sources, the PCA Directorate had found that M/s Sufiyan Chemicals imported three consignments of different chemicals and got them cleared by mis-declaring classification of the imported goods under the PCT 2009.8600 from Customs Port Bin Qasim Karachi through its clearing agent named M/s Danish Traders to avail the Sixth Schedule of the Sales Tax 1990 whereas the imported goods were correctly classifiable under the PCT 2007.9900.
It is pertinent to mention here that M/s. Sufiyan Chemicals itself has imported identical/same import under the correct PCT heading 2017.9910. Apart from it, all other importers of different chemicals have either been declared by the imports or assessed by the Collectorates under PCT 2017.9910.
M/s Sufiyan Chemicals are held to have intentionally and willfully caused the national treasury a loss of Rs1.62million. Now the show-cause notice has been prepared that would be dispatched to the importer asking it as to how and on what basis it did tax evasion. It is mentioned here that it was the 4th show-cause notice issued by Adjudication-I to defaulters companies.
