KARACHI: The work at the Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT), Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) and Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) is slowing down day by day due to the shortage of labour and transporters.
Sources informed Customs Today that the shortage of labour and transporters at the three terminals is slowing down the work as most of them have left for their native towns to celebrate Eid. At least 400 containers are handled daily at PICT), KICT and QICT, sources said.
The sources stated that during the holidays, all the three terminals are expected to be jammed and the vessels owners may have to face demurrages due to delay in departure of container carriers.
The customs officers before the vacations of Eidul Azha had requested the officers concerned for shifting the containers to warehouses to avoid jammed situation but they refused to do it due to some technical reasons.
