KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the Tax Department and Deputy Attorney General on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Power Steel Foundry against the auction of it’s 329.180 MT iron and steel remeltable scrap valued Rs14million.
Hearing on the notice, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, also directed them to file their respective comments on the next date of hearing.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is engaged in the business of import raw material for his foundry. He informed the court that officials of the customs department have auctioned a consignment of the petitioner 329.180 MT iron and steel re-meltable scrape valued Rs14million without serving any notice on the petitioner.
Citing to Chairman, Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement East and Deputy Collector, Model Customs Collectorate East Wharf Karachi, as respondents, he pleaded with the court to kindly order the respondents to pay the cost of auctioned goods or return back the goods and also cost of litigation may be granted to the petitioner.
