KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has continued interim order and adjourned the matter for August 31, 2017 on a constitutional petition filed by Khurram Shahzad, proprietor of M/s Diamond Fabrics, seeking release of his consignment of yarns and fabrics seized by customs department. A two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, heard the petition.
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is an exporter of textile of fabrics. He imported a consignment of yarns and fabrics and filed goods declaration for clearance according to law, however, a show cause notice was served on the petitioner and his consignment was seized by the customs authorities without showing any lawful reason.
Being aggrieved, it moved the concerned appellate forum, which directed the customs officials for release of his consignment, however, officials of the customs department are not following any order.
Citing Secretary Revenue Division and Director (Customs Enforcement) Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi as respondents, he pleaded the court may direct the respondents to release his consignment immediately.
