KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed M/s Al-Sahara Exchange Company (Private) Limited to submit a rejoinder on the next date of hearing on a constitutional petition, seeking release of $9,2440,223 seized by the customs authorities at Jinnah International Airport Karachi. A two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Umer Sial, was hearing the petition.
During the hearing, counsel for the customs department filed para wise comments which was supplied to the counsel for the petitioner, who then sought time for file the rejoinder. The court adjourned the matter for September 28, 2017.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner’s company is dealing the foreign currency notes, coins, postal motes, money orders, bank drafts, in the rotten, petitioner was exporting above mentioned foreign currency, however, officials of the customs authorities intercepted petitioner’s official and seized said money illegally.
Citing Collector of Customs Preventive, Director Foreign Exchange Operation Department, Deputy Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and chairman Federal Board of Revenue as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court may declare that act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary. He also pleaded the court may direct the respondents to release the above mentioned foreign currency.
