KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) granted protective bail to suspect namely Ather Mateen against the surety of Rs50,000 and directed him to surrender himself before the trail court within seven days, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid assorted brand counterfeit wrist watches etc.
On June 13, 2019, a single bench, comprising Justice Abdul Maalik Gaddi heard the protective bail.
During the hearing, counsel for the accused filed protective bail and argued that applicant was booked in a false case registered at model Customs Collectorate Preventive Office of the Superintendent Preventive Service, Anti-Smuggling Organization , N.M.B Wharf, Karachi for smuggling of contraband goods.
He further argued that case is false and has been registered due to enmity, it is further contended that applicant intends to surrender before the trail court to face trail, but he apprehend his immediate arrest at the hands of customs officials serious allegations of mala fide has also been leveled against the officials of customs.
After the hearing, court passed order that ‘without touching the merits of the case, the applicant/ accused above named is granted protective bail for a period of seven days subject of surety of Rs50,000 just to enable him to approach the competent court and seeks remedy in accordance with law.
