KARACHI: A Sindh High Court has deferred hearing of a Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal (CPLA) pertaining to regulatory duty till next week asking the appellant side to come prepared.
The SHC bench was comprised of Justice Omar Ata Bindyal and Justice Afzal Ahmed, while Choudhry Zafar Iqbal represented the federal government as well as FBR.
The respondents including Tiles Association represented by Franklin Law Associates questioned the imposition of Regulatory Duty and sought continuation of concessionary rate of taxes and duty under SRO 497 of 2009.
The lawyer from Franklin Law Associates submitted that whatever the custom duty, taxes, regulatory duty are estimated 50 per cent or 100 per cent, the payable would be at a rate of 37.5 per cent as per SRO cited above.
