KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a petition until May 11, 2016 filed by Abdul Jabbar Khanani and Yousaf Ameen against alleged loss to the national exchequer amounting to Rs 16,907,990.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Munib Akhter and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi heard the application. During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners were not present. However, the counsel for the respondent requested for fixation of a date.
Earlier, the petitioners’ counsel stated that petitioners were sole proprietors and are operating their business with the name of M/s Khanani Corporation. The petitioners stated that they are engaged in manufacturing of different kinds of articles of plastic and filing their monthly sales tax returns regularly accordance with the law.
According to the petitioners, the respondents issued a notice on December 18, 2012 alleging that they had claimed illegal input tax adjustment on the strength of national exchequer to the tune of Rs 10,718,708 and Rs 6,189,282. In the notice, the petitioners were directed to produce the record pertaining to the period from July 2008 to-date.
The counsel pleaded the SHC to set aside impugned notice and restrain the respondents from taking any coercive action against the petitioners.
