ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday directed Board of Investment (BOI) to conduct meeting with all the stakeholders for resolving the issues related to Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
The meeting was held here at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood. Members of the committee including Senator Hidayat Ullah, Senator Mir Muhammad Yousaf Badini, Senator Khushbakht Shujat and Senator Ms. Najma Hameed attended the meeting.
Senator Nauman Wazir Wazir Khattak and Senator Taj Haider was the special invitee of the meeting. The meeting discussed the matter regarding the “number of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) established notified in the country so far” referred by the House to the Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat in its sitting held on January 10th, 2017.
The committee recommended Board of Investment to prepare a detailed report after conducting meetings with the provincial governments regarding the establishment of Special Economic Zones.
The committee said that BOI should be strengthened for bringing improvement in the pace of work on the SEZs.
The committee recommended Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to ensure release of salaries to daily wages teachers and other contractual employees of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) within one week.
The committee decided to take up a bill titled “The Islamabad Capital Territory Senior Citizens Board Bill, 2017” moved by Senator Chaudhry Tanvir Khan in the Senate in its sitting held on February 13, 2017 in the next meeting of the committee.
The committee also discussed the outsourcing of the airports advertised, pointed out by Senator Taj Haider in the Senate in its sitting held on February 16, 2017.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of Civil Aviation Division, Ministry of CADD, Capital Development Authority, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, governments of Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
