ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has been direct not to register non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for unlimited period.
The Prime Minister’s High-Level Inter-Ministerial Committee also directed the commission register the NGOs after a proper scrutiny mechanism designed by the Interior Ministry.
SECP Chairman Zafar Hijazi, while briefing the media persons, said that the SECP will not register more NGOs and action will be taken against the 23 NGOs, if they don’t comply with the commission rules and regulations and we will write to the State Bank to freeze their accounts.
The 23 international NGOs include, Save the Children, the British Council, American Institutes for Research in the Behavioral Sciences, Al Ehya Trust, Albion Pakistan Inc, Association of National Development Finance Institutions in Member Countries of Islamic Development Bank, CAG Ogretim Isletmeleri AS.
