ISLAMABAD: Federation of Pakistan Chamber Commerce (FPCCI) Daroo Khan Achackzai said that I feel immense pleasure while heartily congratulating for organizing the world custom day in Pakistan. Every year World Customs Organization set a theme for the day and this year theme is “Smart borders for seamless trade, travel and transport.
Talking with Customs Today during an exclusive interview, he said that the theme of the current year 2019 is very relevant to business community as the world trade in the new regime is strongly supported and dependent upon effective network.
The FPCCI has been emphasizing on promotion of cross border trade with greater connectivity. Economic corridors are being identified to link economies to boost global trade. Pakistan has also become a main player of the global trade game by initiating CPEC.
He said that I believe that the smart borders for seamless trade will reduce worldwide trade costs by between 12.5% and 17.5%.
Daroo Khan Achackzai said that the new era of globalization has reshaped international trade and called for not only strengthened dialogue between jurisdictions, but also nurturing of a sustainable partnership with the business community.
This new approach of smart borders for seamless trade has provided a framework of business-to-customs and sharing of advance cargo information, thereby improving the overall Customs clearance efficiency which ultimately boosts trade.
In order for individual economies to remain competitive, a proper balance must be established between the historical responsibility of customs in deterring illegal activities, protecting public revenue and ensuring border security with which are essential for smart and seamless trade.
However, in this context, customs managers require quality information and reliable analysis on which they can base their strategic decision-making.
The future for all international trade stakeholders is closely linked, and depends on ability to work together. This means that customs cannot act alone without taking into account the interests of its partners.
President said that the FPCCI extend its full cooperation for implantation of modern custom practices in Pakistan. The FPCCI has been emphasizing promotion of technology, National Single window and up-gradation of all allied and associated department to facilitate trade.
