KARACHI: The authorities concerned of Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) have put a hold on scrape consignments at Karachi International Containers Terminal (KICT) on suspicion of mis-declaration, it is learnt here.
Sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of AIB have put on hold two consignments of scrape on doubt of having anything else as per declaration and referred those consignments for examination.
The sources further said that the examining official along with the AIB official would conduct the examination of those consignments.
Replying to a query, the sources further revealed that those scrape consignments were imported from China through Yellow Channel and the customs authorities would conduct thorough examination of those consignments, as the PCT heading and weight mentioned in the goods declaration by the importer were not appropriate.
“Therefore, the consignments would be examined properly and then it would be decided whether the importer declared correct PCT and tier weight in those consignments or not,” sources added.
They further revealed that the authorities concerned would issue a demand notice of differential amount in case of any mis-declaration in terms of PCT heading and tier weight found during the examination of the consignments.
Responding to another query, the sources disclosed that there is a possibility of mis-declaration in weight of the consignments, as a majority of the imported consignments of scrape were found to be having more weight than the importer mentioned in the GD.
