KARACHI: The Supreme Court has directed the investigation officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to produce copies of the cheques and other documents on an appeal filed by suspects namely Nazeer Ahmed Channa, Tila Muhammad, Mureed Abbas and others, seeking bail before the arrest in a tax refund fraud case.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the appeals in Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
During the hearing, counsel for the suspects appeared before the court and argued that National Accountability Bureau registered cases against his clients falsely. He said they never issued any fake cheques and are ready to face trial , therefore, the court may grant them bail till final judgment of the case.
However, counsel for the National Accountability Bureau submitted that prosecution has sufficient evidences against them who were involved in tax refund fraud case and prosecution has produced all the relevant record before the trail and Sindh High Court (SHC), he argued that suspects caused loss ti the national exchequer to the tune of Rs2,4600,000. He further submitted that on sufficient evidences, as well as Sindh High Court (SHC) had rejected their bails, therefore, court may reject their bail before arrest and may direct them to join investigation.
After the hearing, court directed counsel for the NAB to produce documents and come prepare on next date of hearing, court also adjourned the matter for December 14, 2017.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against above mentioned suspects for violation of National Accountability Bureau Act.
