JEDDAH: Saudi Ministry of Labor is coordinating with a number of companies in the food industry to provide 100,000 work opportunities in the next four months.
These jobs will be available to both young Saudi men and women. Member of the food industry committee, Salem Balkhushr, said the Ministry of Labor made 6,000 jobs available in the past five months in different parts of the country. A member of the food industry committee, Wasif Kabli, said there are training programs for those who wish to apply for these jobs. He added that the trainees are paid a monthly stipend of SR2,500 during their training period.
He estimated that the number of Saudis working in the food industry at around 30 percent of the total workforce. Saudi women account for about 8 percent of administrative jobs.
Saudi customs source told Al-Madinah daily that the ministry is coordinating with the food industry committee at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) to provide jobs in sales, marketing and administrative positions.
A member of the board of directors at Sunbulah Group, Ziyad Allehaidan, said the turnover rate of Saudi employees is high in food industry jobs, but the number of Saudis at Sunbulah account for 35 percent of its total workforce, and women account for 10 percent of administrative and production jobs.
Kabli said many companies complain Saudi workers are not serious about their jobs, which results in a significant number of resignations, while others say they have trouble recruiting enough Saudis, especially in production line jobs.
