Sargodha FIU seizes non duty paid tyres

SARGODHA: The Field Investigation Unit (FIU) of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized huge quantity of foreign origin tyres worth Rs8 million during a successful raid.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat received a tip off about the smuggling of non-duty paid used tyres. He constituted a team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Tahir Iqbal, Intelligence Officer, Adnan Inayatullah, driver Muhammad Aslam, Sepoy Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Usman Iqbal, Muhammad Khalil, Fakhar Abbas and Asad Iqbal.

The FIU team intercepted a Mazda mini truck bearing registration no: EA-2792 near Joharabad and recovered 178 tyres of foreign origin. FIU team asked the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Tahir Majeed to produce legal documents regarding the possession of the tyres and vehicle but he failed to do so.

So the FIU Sargodha team took the truck loaded with tyres into possession and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for legal proceeding.
