SARGODHA: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sargodha has foiled a smuggling attempt and impounded non duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser worth Rs20,00,000 involving customs duty and taxes Rs10,11,360.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan received credible information regarding transportation of smuggled items. He immediately formed a special team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Malik Atif Mumtaz, Bashir Hussain, Sepoys Muhammad Imran, Hafiz Nasir, Shafqat Mehmood, Safdar Hussain to foil the smuggling attempt.
The ASO team started checking vehicles near Khushab. During checking the ASO team intercepted a foreign originToyota Land Cruiser bearing registration no: SGD-5659 model 1985. The team asked the owner to show the legal documents regarding possession of smuggled vehicle.
The owner who was later identified as Ghulam Mustafa son of Malik Ghulam Muhammad to produced legal documents of vehicle. But he remained failed to provide any required document. After his failure the ASO team confiscated the Land Cruiser under section 2(s) of the customs act 1969 read with SRO 566(1)2005 punishable under section 156(1)89(i) of the Customs Act 1969.
The ASO team registered a case of smuggling against the accused under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 and forwarded the case to the customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
